Rapaport List : the way to price your diamond
The Rapaport Price List is the primary source of diamond price information for the diamond trade and is commonly used by dealers as an approximate guideline for evaluating diamond prices. The Rapaport list prices diamonds according to the 4 C’s that is Colour, Clarity, Cut and Carat. Once the 4C's are established, as with certified diamonds, matching the certificate to the list serves as the starting point for establishing prices.

The Rapaport list publishes lists for Round and Pear Shape diamonds online weekly on midnight of every Thursday with the exception of holidays. These prices may be substantially higher than actual transaction prices. It is most common for the diamond trade to transact diamonds at a discount to the List.

So detailed information about discounts are also provided online in real time via the RapNet diamond trading network. They are also included in the Trade Sheets published with the Rapaport monthly magazine.

The pear shape list can be used as a base to determine the prices of other fancy shapes.

So basically matching your 4C’s Certificate to the Rapaport list will give you a good idea of the international value of your diamond.

“How to calculate Diamond Price by RAPAPORT PRICE LIST ?

Suppose you want to calculate the price of a Round Brilliant 1 carat diamond having “VVS1” clarity ,“G” Color, Excellent Cut, Fluorescence - None Now to know the reference price of above illustrated diamond, we would take the following steps:-

Step 1:- Go to the weight bracket of 1.00-1.49 Ct of Round Diamond.

Step2:- In this matrix of figure, on axis “Y” color is mentioned and on “X” axis clarity is mentioned. Now we are here to see the figure at the cross section of G and VVS1, this is “99”. This price sheet is in “hundreds” of US$. So “99” means 9900 US$/ Ct.

Step 3:- Convert this into Indian Rupees by multiplying this figure with the latest exchange rate.

For Example, the dollar rate is Rs 48/-
So, 9900*48= Rs 4, 75,200
This is how we calculate Rapaport Price of a Diamond. But this is only a Reference Price.

Step 4:- Now we have to find a dealer who gives the best discount on the Rap Price.

While accepting a discount, one has to be very careful about all the quality parameters of a diamond as mentioned in the certificate of the stone. As every parameter has some bearing on the price or discount.
